“Support to the implementation of the Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) of the Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage and Global Change (JPI CH)” is a 4 year-project within the Horizon 2020 framework involving 16 JPI Cultural Heritage Partners. It started in January 2016 and will run until 2019.

One of the project’s participants is the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage on behalf of which the National Institute for Museums acts as an implementing institution.

After in-depth evaluation procedures, it was decided that one of the programmes, namely the Follow-up Activities Action Programme, will involve conducting thirteen tasks over the period 2017–2019. In 2018 Polish institutions were assigned the mission of coordinating the task titled Research on the role of cultural heritage in the building of (national) identity in post-conflict situations.

Poland organised the international scholarly conference which took place on 10–12 September 2018 at the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw.

The publication which we are now recommending arises from the conference and study visits completed within the framework of this activity.

The JPICH Digital Heritage Call is the first of a series of four joint transnational calls within the context of the JPI Cultural Heritage.

The Digital Heritage call  support well-defined, transnational, interdisciplinary and collaborative research and development projects that maximize the value and impact of research outcomes by promoting the exchange with policy makers, businesses and commercial enterprises, the broader Heritage sector, voluntary and community groups and the general public.

The JPICH Digital Heritage Call for Proposals was formally published on April 24, 2017. At the deadline (June 22, 2017) 34 proposals were submitted.

Three of these proposals were declared not eligible by either the handling agency or the national funding partners. All eligible proposals were first remotely assessed on the formal evaluation criteria defined in the call by at least two independent international peer reviewers. An International Assessment Panel carefully discussed and ranked the eligible proposals.

A project proposal must comprise of at least three research teams, each based in an eligible institution in a different country participating in the Digital Heritage Call.

The countries participating in this call are: Belarus, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, United Kingdom.

Among eight projects chosen to be financed within the JPI CH Digital Heritage Programme there is one initiative, namely Digital Heritage in Cultural Conflicts (DigiConflict) realized with a participation of a Polish research team. The partner institution is the Liber Pro Arte Association whose Principal Investigator is Ms. Ewa Manikowska.

It is the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, acting through the National Institute for Museums, to finance the activities of the Polish research team. The total amount of funding for the period of 36 months is 69 700 EUR.

The call  supportwell-defined, transnational, interdisciplinary and collaborative researchand development projects that maximise the value and impact of researchoutcomes by promoting the Exchange with policy makers, businesses andcommercial enterprises, the broader Heritage sector, voluntary andcommunity groups and the general public.

The countries participating in this call were : Belarus, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Norway, Poland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom.

The JPICH Heritage in Changing environment Call for Proposals was formally published on September 4th 2017.

At the deadline (November 30th 2017) 42 proposals were submitted. A project proposal had to comprise of at least three research teams, each based in an eligible institution in a different country participating in the Heritage in Changing Environments Call.

Three of these proposals were declared not eligible by either the Handling agency or the national funding partners. All the eligible proposals were first remotely assessed on the formal evaluation criteria defined in the call by three independent international peer reviewers.

A different  International Assessment Panel composed by 8 experts carefully discussed and ranked the eligible proposals.

Among five projects chosen to be financed within the JPI CH Digital Heritage Programme there are three initiatives realized with a participation of the Polish research teams, namely:

• Community Archaeology in Rural Environments - Meeting Societal Challenges (CARE M-SOC) – „Dziedzictwo” (Heritage) Foundation, Principal Investigator – Arkadiusz Marciniak;
• Extinction as cultural heritage? Exhibiting human nature entanglements with extinct and threatened (EXINCT) - Municipal Gallery Arsenal, Principal Investigator – Monika Bakke;
• Heritage Opportunities/threats within Mega-Events in Europe (HOMME) - International Cultural Center, Principal Investigator - Jacek Purchla.
